Meet Dr Varsha Sharma
General, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon
Dr Varsha Sharma is a Liverpool-based General, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgeon with extensive subspecialty training in complex liver, pancreatic and biliary surgery. She holds Visiting Medical Officer appointments at Liverpool Hospital and Sydney Southwest Private Hospital.
After completing her medical degree at the University of Sydney, Dr Sharma undertook specialist training in General Surgery across South Western Sydney. She subsequently completed advanced post-fellowship training in HPB surgery at several leading Australian tertiary centres, gaining broad experience in liver surgery, pancreatic surgery and upper gastrointestinal oncology.
Her fellowship appointments included specialised training at St George Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, Western Health in Melbourne and Westmead Hospital. She also completed bi-nationally accredited fellowship training through the Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association (AANZHPBA).
Dr Sharma has a strong clinical focus on hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers, particularly pancreatic malignancy. She is dedicated to delivering thoughtful, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s individual needs, with an emphasis on open communication, safety and support throughout the surgical process. Interpreter services can be arranged to assist patients from non-English speaking backgrounds.
Alongside her HPB practice, Dr Sharma performs a range of general surgical procedures, including minimally invasive and open hernia surgery.
Dr Sharma remains actively involved in surgical teaching and training at Liverpool Hospital. She is a Conjoint Lecturer with the University of New South Wales and contributes to clinical research and education through her role on the Surgery Subcommittee of the Australian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG).
